And We Will Rise Up

and we will rise up.png

We dress up like princesses to be treated like ones
Our looks so perfect it is hard to watch
The fools, the knights in the shining armors
Sometimes princes, those everlasting charmers
Every once in a while kings of foreign lands
They all fall to our feet, reaching for our hands

Like fallen angels looking for a god
They kneel on the mud just before us
But we ain't gods, no
We are queens of our own
Our crowns don't show
They are hidden in our souls

We dress up like princesses to be treated like ones
The queens are feared, the princesses are not
(Queens can rise up alone,
Princesses can't when they are told to not
All the men are scared of us)

But all of this is just a dress up game,
Why fear something that is just a play?

Like fallen angels looking for a god
They kneel on the mud just before us
Their hands catching our skirts,
We are tricked to think they'll try to pull themselves up, to the light
Instead of it, we find ourselves from the mud, from the eternal dark
We can't see a way out, just hearing their voices
The fool opens his mouth and says;
"All your secrets exposed.
You ain't gods
Not queens
Not princesses
Who do you think you are?"

Just a whisper from the dark
"We are women.
And we will rise up."
