Ballet School Provides Refuge and Strength to Young Ballerinas

In a Rio de Janeiro favela, a converted library has become a refuge for children in the face of poverty and violence. Daiana Ferreira de Oliveira opened a ballet studio to teach ballet and, in some ways, political activism. Oliveira tells her students, "There is no set destiny... Just because you were born in a favela does not mean your life needs to play out a certain way."
