Female Gubernatorial Candidates Hope To Make History This Year

Across the country, only 28 states have ever had a female governor, but this year, that could change. In the next two weeks, five women will be on the ballot in primaries in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, the last two of which have never had a female executive. Cultural and financial barriers often preclude women for running for governor, but so far this election cycle, nine women have won gubernatorial primaries, and 19 women are still running.
