Focusing specifically on children's books, Dottir is committed to telling the stories to both boys and girls that they were never told, in addition to stories that validate and do not belittle their experiences. Upcoming books for the Fall are about a boy who begins to questions race and identity after seeing a police shooting on TV. Another is about an 11-year-old who raises his younger brother while his single mother goes to work.
