France Outlaws Street Harassment, Punishable by Fines
As part of a set of measures targeting sexual violence, French lawmakers passed legislation outlawing sexual street harassment. This makes actions such as catcalling or lewd comments a crime; these crimes are punishable by “on-the-spot fines” of up to 750 euros ($870.00). The legislation also includes points to protect minors under the age of 15. The law will go into effect next month.
