Girlfriends is One of First Films to Consider Female Friendship

If you're looking for a new (old) film to watch, Girlfriends might be the hidden gem you need. The 1978 film, loved by figures like Lena Dunham, Greta Gerwig, and Wes Anderson, is one of the first to step outside of the "male-centric narrative." The film centers around the friendship between Susan Weinblatt (Melanie Mayron), aspiring photographer, and Anne Munroe (Anita Skinner), aspiring writer.
