India Removes 12% Tax on Sanitary Pads

This past week, India removed the 12% tax on sanitary pads, calling it a luxury tax. This tax removal, however, does not apply to tampons or menstrual cups. Women and girls erupted on Twitter to favor this tax removal and expressed how much money this would save them in the long term- money they could not use toward college textbooks or hostel stays. They hope that the nation eradicates the tax on all menstrual products, as there is no reason, many say, that menstruation should have been taxed in the first place.
