Lewinale Havette: Honor Your Mother

Born during the peak of Liberia’s civil rights crisis, painter Lewinale Havette is acutely aware of the need to celebrate diversity and commonalities. Her paintings, which feature multiculturalist themes as well as the African Eve explore the genealogy of human beings as well as discrimination. For Havette, it’s important to celebrate the African ancestry of humankind, especially in light of the slave trade and misuse of Africa’s natural resources. Drawing upon her own experiences as well as those experienced by all human beings, Havette hopes that her work can remind the world of its African roots and help close toxic divides within society.
