Melbourne Writers’ Festival Guided by #MeToo Conversation


Feminist discussion, especially revolving around the #MeToo movement, was at the forefront of many panels at Melbourne Writers’ Festival. The most high-profile session at the festival included Australian journalist Tracy Spicer and investigative journalist Ronan Farrow whose work was critical in exposing Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual assault. This discussion took place at the sold-out Athenaeum Theatre. Despite sharing a common mission, the #MeToo movement’s implementation differs from country to country because of cultural differences; generational divides have also been highlighted by the movement.
