New Girl Scout Badges Inspiring STEM Interest

This year, the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas introduced 30 new STEM badges to foster an early interest in these subject for young girls.  With the new badges and the opening of the STEM Center of Excellence in southwest Dallas, the goal is to introduce scouts to STEM using hands-on experience.  The center also teams up with various corporate and nonprofit partners to provide role models in biomedical engineering, math, and medicine. Jennifer Bartkowski, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, says, "STEM is the future of the country, and if you have only white men [in those fields] you are not going to have a diverse representation.”
