Stop Labeling Female Activists “Young and Naive”

In an op-ed for Teen Vogue, Rose Strauss, an 18-year-old climate change activist, writes about her experience at one of Scott Wagner’s campaign events where he called her “young and naive” in response to her questioning his stance on climate change. According to Follow The Money, Wagner (a Republican candidate for Pennsylvania governor) in the past year alone has accepted $200,000 from PACs, lobbyists, and fossil fuel executives. Strauss remarks, “If being “young and naive” means I believe no one should lose their home from a flood, a fire, or other climate disaster because of a few wealthy corporate executives wanted to make a few extra bucks, then call me young and naive.” Now, she’s making a difference with the Sunrise Movement, which is a group of young people looking to end climate change and create jobs
