“The First Thing I Do When I Get Home”

In her painting “The First Thing I Do When I Get Home,” artist Hiejin Yoo mixes calming blue tones with socio-cultural elements to create a deeply personal reflection of herself. It’s a simple scene that reflects the freedom and serenity Yoo feels when she can finally take off her bra; one of her most beloved rituals. Yoo, a native of conservative South Korea, says she feels required to wear her bra in public while American women are free to ditch theirs. “The First Thing I Do When I Get Home” is a part of the “Seed” exhibit at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York City, NY until August 10th.
